In the BREEAM process, the BREEAM Assessor plays an essential role. As a validating expert, the assessor checks that the allocation of credits is correct, the evidence is present and correct, and visits the site for direct assessment, including photographs. BREEAM stands for Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method. The method originated in England and was developed by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). In the Netherlands, BREEAM is managed by the Dutch Green Building Council (DGBC) and there are special adapted guidelines for the Netherlands, BREEAM in the Netherlands is therefore formally called BREEAM-NL.
Become a recognized BREEAM Assessor after attending specific training courses at DGBC and successfully completing the exam. Independence is crucial, and clients should arrange their own assessor.
